31st October, 2009 - Match Reporter Jersey's Jamie Redknapp St Paul's vs. Magpies - St Saviour 2.00pm KO.
1st half
A record low attendance at Clos Des Pauvres were treated to a fantastic display of football brilliance condemning Magpies to defeat by double figures. There were a few season ticket holders absent for this one sided affair.
Jersey’s Jamie Redknapp wishes he had brought an A3 size notepad to take down all the details as St Paul’s struggled at half time to work out whether they had scored 7 or 8 in the first half.
St Paul’s started the game in good form from the off and took the lead in the 6th minute after Dave Watson was rugby tackled from behind by the big lump in midfield after trying an audacious overhead volley. Leitch converted from the spot despite Devlin’s encouraging words to “follow it in”.
Docherty finished off a fine move down the left to slot home from 8 yards and Leitch soon made it 3 soon after with a deflected shot from outside the area. Rusty made it 4 and was claiming the 5th after heading a corner goalwards before it took a deflection off a magpies defender to the goalkeeper who threw it into the net. Dubious claim for a goal.
Joel made a fine one on one save from Magpies’ lively striker to keep his clean sheet record in tact. Back down the other end Lucas grabbed himself a brace just before half time to make it 7 without reply.
2nd Half
Both sides would have happily called it a day at half time but credit to St Paul’s who kept the tempo up in the second half and maintained their ruthless streak, playing some lovely quick football. Russell was awarded a penalty after a jinking run down the right hand side, and Leitch did the honourable thing by giving up his opportunity of a hat-trick for Rusty to get himself his second of the game.
Culkin took a precaution by bringing Captain André off shortly after the restart after he had complained that his ankle was troubling him. He still didn’t believe he was actually being subbed and had to be persuaded to leave the pitch in favour of J.P. Martyn, who slotted in at right back.
Mark Lucas was again on hand to tap in a rebound off the post from Leitch after the move of the match. St Paul’s had completely out done Magpies with some lovely passing and interchanging of positions that would make Arsenal proud.
Luke Watson was then on hand to smash home from close range after a mix up in the Magpies defence. 10 nil. Double figures, exactly what the management had demanded.
The management were worried when Luke Watson went down screaming in agony after the aforementioned big lump made a challenge but Watson soon hopped up mouthing off to anyone who tried speaking to him, including his brother.
Leitch scored a magnificent header to take his tally for the afternoon to 3. He was involved again in another fine move when he flicked the ball out to Mark Lucas who ran in on goal and calmy stroked the ball into the near post. St Paul’s 12, Magpies 0.
